John P. Watkins, 83, of Monroe Twp. died on Sunday February 28, 2016 at Monroe Village Healthcare Center. John was born in Jersey City and raised in Kearny. He lived in Bergenfield and Montvale before returning to Bergenfield and has resided in The Ponds, Monroe Twp. since 1998. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. John was a manager of IT finance for Cigna, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus and the Rutgers Cagers Club and Touchdown Club.
John is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marilyn C. (Joy) Watkins of Monroe Twp., his son John C. Watkins of Franklin, TN, and two sisters: Beatrice Brown of Florida and Teresa Baker of Union Beach.
Visitation will be 9-10:15am on Thursday March 3, 2016 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home – 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831 – 732-521-0555. Funeral services will begin at 10:15am immediately following the visitation from the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will be 11am at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church – 185 Applegarth Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831 followed by interment in Washington Crossing National Cemetery – 830 Highland Rd., Newtown, PA 18940.
