Joseph G. Meyers, 86, of Largo, FL and Avalon, NJ, died at Sun Coast Hospice Center, Pinellas Park, FL on Thursday December 17, 2015.
Relatives and friends are invited for visitation at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc., 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Township, NJ 08831 on Tuesday December 22, 2015, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm and on Wednesday December 23, 2015 from 8:30am to 9:00am. Funeral services will begin at 9:00am on Wednesday from the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am at Nativity of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, 185 Applegarth Rd., Monroe Township, NJ followed by Interment in Holy Cross Burial Park, 840 Cranbury Road, Jamesburg, NJ 08831.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Joseph resided in Hillsborough, NJ, from 1956 until 1994, when in retirement he and his cherished wife of sixty-one years, Mary, divided their time between Avalon and Largo, where he was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church.
He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean War. Employed by Cyrus J. Lawrence and Sons, New York, NY, for thirty-six years, he was Director of Purchases and Sales. While domiciled at Hillsborough, he was an active member of Christ the King Church, Manville, coaching C.Y. O. Basketball, volunteering on several committees and ministering as a lector at Sunday Mass.
He was the beloved husband of Mary A. (Quinn); devoted father of Rev. Robert V. Meyers, Parochial Vicar, St. Lawrence Church, Laurence Harbor, and Maryellen Schettini and her husband, John, Cranbury; and adoring grandfather of Emily Q. and Lillian M. Schettini.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to either: Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, 4597 Warren Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48105; or to Dominican Sisters of Perpetual Adoration and Perpetual Rosary, 543 Springfield Ave., Summit, NJ 07901-4498.
