Obituary of Sarah E. Bahto

Sarah Elizabeth Bahto, 97, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2015 at Monroe Village in Monroe Township, NJ where she resided for the past 6 years. She previously lived in Summit NJ for many years and in Manahawkin, NJ. She was born on December 6, 1918 to Thomas and Sadie Betterbed. She leaves her children, Elizabeth Thoresen and son-in-law Thomas of Stamford VT and her son Richard and his wife Linda of Monroe Township, NJ. Sarah also leaves her sisters Judy Rizzo and Helen Bardajy (Andy) and her brother Thomas Betterbed (Lucille). Another sister Dorothy predeceased her. There are 5 grandchildren Lori Adelman (Craig Feldman); Wendi (Mansour) Karam, Theresa Bobowiec, Kristian Thoresen and Tammy Shanley, (Frank); great granddaughters Eliana Karam, Alexandria, Torra and Jacqueline Thoresen with two great granddaughters on the way. Her husband Clarence whom she married on September 22, 1946, died on January 25, 1996. Sarah worked for over 25 years for Chubb & Son Insurance Company in Short Hills, NJ. She loved to cook and bake, was a crossword puzzle wiz and played a competitive game of mah-jong, but most of all she loved her family. Mom had a quick wit and a fabulous memory! She was a true survivor and sprung back from several health challenges. At Sarah's request there are no calling hours. A service will be held Saturday, December 12 at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate her life at the chapel located on the premises of Restland Memorial Cemetery, 77 DeForest Ave., East Hanover, NJ with burial to follow.
