Clara (Neuman) Rothman – 102 – Monroe Twp. Clara (Neuman) Rothman, 102, died on Monday October 19, 2015 at her residence at The Gardens @ Monroe, Monroe Twp. Clara was born in New York City and attended Washington Irving High School, graduating in 1930 as Valedictorian. She began a career in bookkeeping and accounting, married Saul Bartelstone and moved to Irvington, NJ where they had their only son, David. She was widowed in 1952 and then resumed her working career. In 1957 she married Stanley Rothman and moved to Queens. They moved to Florida in 1975 and she was widowed again in 1976. In 1980 she married Louis Hirshon and while living in Aventura, FL, Mr. Hirshon died in 1991. Her working career in the accounting field lasted over 36 years until her retirement in 1975. She was a member of ORT America and B'nai Brith. She enjoyed writing, especially her own poetry. She was an avid reader, Scrabble player and crossword puzzler, often completing 2-3 New York Times puzzles in one sitting. Clara was preceded in death by her first husband, Saul Bartelstone (1952), her second husband, Stanley Rothman (1976) and her third husband, Louis Hirshon (1991). She is survived by her son, David Rothman and his wife Elizabeth of Monroe Twp., two grandchildren: Scott M. Rothman and his wife Jessica of Short Hills and Stefani B. Rothman and her husband Rob Lipschitz of Livingston, five great grandchildren: Benjamin Eli, Samantha, Danielle, Drew and Lily and one step-granddaughter, Nadine Busnar of Asbury Park. Visitation will be 10-11am on Thursday October 22, 2015 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. – 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ, 08831 – (732) 521-0555. A funeral service will be 11am on Thursday at the conclusion of the visiting hours followed by interment in Mount Lebanon Cemetery – Iselin.
