Obituary of Harriet B. Ringel

Harriet B. (Berman) Weissberg Ringel, 101, died on Wednesday July 22, 2015 at Meadow Lakes in East Windsor. Born in Elizabeth, she lived there for over 60 years, moving to Rossmoor in Monroe Twp. in 1986. She received her BS from New York University in 1933 and her MA in behavioral science from Kean University in 1977. From 1934 to 1937 she was a case worker for the New Jersey State Emergency Relief Service, the precursor to Social Services. She then worked for the Elizabeth Housing Authority for several years as the supervisor of tenant selection. Finally, she had an 18+ year career in the Elizabeth School System as a secondary special services teacher, retiring in 1973. Harriet was very active in the Rossmoor Community, especially with the Jewish Congregation, where she served as President for four years. She also served on the Advisory Committee of the Middlesex County Jewish Family and Vocational Services Commission.
Harriet was preceded in death by her first husband, Jonas Weissberg, MD (1965), her second husband, Dewey D. Ringel (1995), her brother Myron J. Berman (2013) and her sister Theodora Fisher (2014).
She is survived by her two sons: Daniel L. Weissberg, MD and his wife Linda of Tustin, CA and Joseph B. Weissberg, MD and his wife Eleanor of Guilford, CT, one sister Bernice Rosenberg of Farmington, CT, four grandchildren: Jason and his wife Katie, Rachel, Hilary and Jordan and two great grandchildren: Jonas and Jared.
Funeral services will be 11:30am on Sunday July 26, 2015 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. – 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831 – 732-521-0555 – followed by a graveside service at 1pm at Beth Israel Cemetery – Woodbridge. A memorial reception will be at 3pm at Meadow Lakes – 300 Meadow Lakes, East Windsor, NJ 08520.
