Obituary of Antonio 'Tony' Lavadera

Antonio 'Tony' Lavadera died on Sunday May 24, 2015 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 80 years old. Mr. Lavadera was born and raised in Brooklyn. He lived in Staten Island for 20 years before moving to Clearbrook, Monroe Twp. in 1994 and has resided in Greenbriar @ Whittingham since 2011. He served in the US Army as a chef. He devoted more than 46 years of his life to his career as a Longshoreman in New York City until his retirement in 1997. He was active in community affairs including acting as a past president of the Clearbrook Community Association and the Clearbrook Italian American Club. He was a parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, Monroe Twp. where he was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus in Council 14658. He was charming and charismatic and touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He will be especially remembered for his culinary skills and joy of entertaining guests, as well as his readiness to voice his candid opinions. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucy (Antolino) Lavadera, his son, Frank Lavadera and his wife Eileen of Princeton Junction, his sister, Libby Falcone of Westerly, RI, his sister-in-law, Grace Trippe and her husband Tom of Monroe Twp., three grandsons, Anthony, Andrew, and Paul, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 7-9pm on Tuesday May 26, 2015 and from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Wednesday May 27, 2015 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. Funeral services will begin at 9:00am on Thursday May 28, 2015 from the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will be 10:00am at St. David the King RC Church, 1 New Village Rd. Princeton Junction, NJ 08550 followed by Entombment in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Easter Seals of New Jersey, www.easterseals.com/nj.
