Maureen (Maloney) Potter died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday May 10, 2015. She was 93 years old. Maureen was born on July 25, 1921 to the late John Joseph and Margaret (MacDonald) Maloney. She was born and raised in Portland, ME and lived on the Maine Coast throughout her early years. Maureen was a woman of extraordinary courage who proudly served her country during WWII as a member of the Women's Airforce Service Pilots and the American Red Cross. It was during her time of service in Germany that she met her late husband, James H. Potter, Jr. They married in 1950 and lived in Greenwich Village before moving to New Jersey to raise their family. They were longtime residents of Kendall Park. Maureen has resided in Monmouth Junction since 2003. Maureen was a sweet, kind hearted woman who was loved by all who knew her. She loved flowers, plants, and gardening. Maureen has been a loyal parishioner of St. Augustine of Canterbury RC Church in Kendall Park since the 1960's. She was preceded in death by her husband James H. Potter, Jr. in 2000, her son, Brian P. "Duffy" Potter in 2013, and four siblings; Marguerite "Peg" Maloney, Lawrence F. Maloney, Donald W. Maloney, and John J. "Jack" Maloney. Maureen was a devoted mother to her three surviving children; Michele M. Potter of Monmouth Junction, James H. Potter, III of Portland, OR, and Jamie M. Blackman of Monmouth Junction; loving sister-in-law of Patricia Criss of San Marcos TX, beloved grandmother of Shane D. Potter, and Nolan J. Potter, and an adored aunt of six nieces. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday May 13, 2015 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home – 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831 - 732-521-0555 www.demarcofuneralhome.com. A Catholic Blessing will take place at 7 p.m. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers and for those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. The family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jory Goldberg, Luanne Hill-Goldberg, and the members of Embracing Hospice for their kind and loving care.
