Obituary of Matthew M. Welna

Matthew M. Welna – Monroe Township, NJ, formerly of Sayreville, NJ Matthew M. Welna, 25, died unexpectedly on Friday March 20, 2015. Matthew was born in Newark, NJ and he resided in Sayreville from 1991 until 2011 when he made Monroe Township, NJ his home. Matthew was a graduate of Sayreville War Memorial High School, Class of 2008. While in high school Matthew was chosen to participate in a peer leadership class in which seniors were trained to speak to freshman about a variety of topics from academics to drug use. He continued his education at Rider University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance and Accounting and then went on to receive his Master's Degree in Accounting. Matthew was employed by Deloitte as an auditor in Princeton, NJ. Matthew played competitive soccer in high school and college. During Matthew's four seasons at Sayreville he started in 73 out of 79 games. He had 22 assists and eight goals and was named All-Greater Middlesex Conference in 2007 as a senior. While at Rider University Matthew played 44 games as a midfielder over four seasons and was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic team three times. Matthew was preceded in death by his grandmother, Marisia Welna. Matthew is survived by his loving parents: Jaroslaw and Roma (Wilusz) Welna of Monroe Township, NJ and his beloved sisters: Michelle and Olivia Welna, also of Monroe Township, NJ. Also surviving are his maternal grandparents: Irena Wilusz Wroblik of Poland and Henryk Wilusz of Dobieszyn, Poland and his paternal grandfather Waclaw Welna of Pieszyce, Poland. Visitation will be from 10-11am on Saturday March 28, 2015 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church – 225 MacArthur Ave. – Sayreville, NJ 08872. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday at the church. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Matthews name can be made to the Sayreville Bombers Boys Soccer Program – 820 Washington Road – Parlin, NJ 08859. Matthew will be greatly missed by his loving family, friends, coaches and peers.
