Joseph J. Fernicola – 92 – Monroe Township, NJ
Joseph J. Fernicola died on September 3, 2014 at Memory Care Living in South River, NJ. He was 92 years old. Joseph was born in Newark and resided for most of his life in Hillside before moving to Concordia in Monroe Twp. 11 years ago. Joseph proudly served his country in the Army. He was employed as a Locomotive Engineer for the Lehigh Valley Railroad for 40 years until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church in Monroe Twp. and a member of the Italian American Club of Hillside.
Joseph was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Tony Fernicola.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Nancy (Somma) Fernicola. On Sunday September 7, 2014 Joseph and Nancy would have been married for 67 years. He is also survived by his two sons Mark Fernicola of Plantation, FL and Gary Fernicola and his wife Linda of Monroe Twp., two brothers Louis Fernicola of Roselle and Pat Fernicola of Mountainside, one sister Marie Bucshbaum of Warren and two grandchildren, Gary and Gabrielle Fernicola.
Funeral services will begin at 9:45am on Monday, September 8, 2014 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home – 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831 – 732-521-0555. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30am at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church – Monroe Twp. followed by entombment in Hollywood Memorial Park – Union. Visitation will be from 2-4 & 7-9pm on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the funeral home.
