Obituary of Eleanor (Wetzel) Cross

Eleanor (Wetzel) Cross died Saturday, August 2, 2014, surround by her loving family and friends in Florida. She was 69 years old. Born in Jamesburg, NJ, Ellie was a long-time resident of New Jersey before relocating to Florida 25 years ago. Daughter of the late Henry and Sophie Wetzel and spouse of the late Robert Cross, she was also predeceased by her longtime loving companion, Walter Southhard formerly of Debary, FL. Surviving are her two sisters, Judith (Robert) Stevenson of North Brunswick, NJ and Terri (Dennis) Hermann of Princeton, NJ and a brother, Henry (Grace) Wetzel of Jamesburg, NJ. Ellie is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, 14 grandnieces and grandnephews and friends, Mark, Susan, Brianna, Calysta and Greg McNally, whose friendship became family to her, and many other dedicated and loving friends. While living in New Jersey, Ellie worked at both Firestone Distribution and Hermann Forwarding both in South Brunswick Twp., for many years. In Florida, she worked at the John Knox Village for 17 years, providing faithful and comforting care to all the residents. Ellie was an incredibly generous and giving woman, who spent a great deal of her life helping others. She was never without a dog and was particularly fond of her cocker spaniel, Charlie. In New Jersey, Ellie loved to cook and play bingo. While in Florida, she made it her life's work to assist neighbors and anyone who needed help of any kind. She was a devoted member of St. Jude's Episcopal Church. Ellie was an unpretentious woman with a quick and entertaining wit. Her strength of character was evident to all who knew her. A gathering of friends and family will take place Saturday, August 16th at 10:30am at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp. A memorial service of remembrance will follow at 11:30am. Inurnment will take place in the memorial gardens of St. Jude's Church, Orange City, FL. The family graciously encourages memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Episcopal Church 815 East Graves Ave., Orange City,, FL 32763. Ellie-- Thank you for loving us. Your life enriched ours and we are grateful for all you taught and gave us. We will love you always and will be with you again one day.
