Helen M. Zarsky, 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Rossmoor, Monroe Township on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. Helen was born December 21, 1922 in New Brunswick, NJ and lived for many years at 301 Remsen Avenue, New Brunswick. Helen is survived by her brother Walter Zarsky of Howell, NJ, her nieces and nephews: William and Camille Duncan, Robert Duncan, Sr. Mary Vertucci, Christine Vertucci, Cecelia Vertucci and Eileen Gibbons, Michele Vertucci and Elliott Gilder, John Vertucci, Thomas Brozene and many grand nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her parents Emelia (Horodyski) and Walter Zarski, her sisters Wanda Duncan, Adelaide Vertucci and Sophie Zarsky and her sisters-in-law Merle Zarsky and Joyce Zarsky and her niece Marcia (Duncan) Brozene. Helen graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1940 and worked as an Executive Secretary for Bristol-Myers Squibb for over forty years in both New Brunswick and Lawrenceville, retiring in 1984. She was an officer of Squibb's Quarter Century Club. Helen was especially close with her sister Sophie. They loved travelling together. Helen took her first plane trip in 1929 and over the years visited many European countries, the Caribbean, Brazil, Africa, New Zealand, Hong Kong, China and Hawaii. Helen was a woman of many interests; she was an avid tennis player, playing till she was 75, she loved to cook, enjoyed the Jersey Shore, was a member of a Hiking Club, the Raritan Valley Ski Club, the Polish American Club and was a Hot Air Balloon traveler. Helen is described by friends and family as fun, caring, energetic, feisty and loving life. She was an active parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Monroe Township where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the choir. A memorial gathering will take place on Thursday May 22, 2014 from 6-8pm at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home – 205 Rhode Hall Road, Monroe Twp., NJ 08831 – 732-521-0555. Friends and relatives are invited to attend the funeral liturgy to be celebrated on Friday May 23, 2014 at 10:30am at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church – 185 Applegarth Road, Monroe Twp., NJ 08831 followed by Entombment at Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum – South Brunswick. The family requests anyone wishing to make a donation in memory of Helen to send a donation to Maryknoll Sisters for Emusoi Center, Tanzania (Checks need to be issued in the name of "Maryknoll Sisters", with Emusoi Center written on the memo line).
