Obituary of Rosemarie A. de Lhery

Rosemarie A. (Hogan) deLhery – Monroe Township, NJ - 83 Rosemarie Ann ( Hogan) deLhery entered into eternal rest on Thursday Feb 13, 2014 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge after a short illness. Marie was born in 1930 in the Yorkville section of Manhattan the adored, and youngest sister of 3. Marie was a parishioner of St Monica's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkville where she attended grammar school and received all her sacraments. She attended St Patrick's Cathedral High School for Girls and was awarded a scholastic scholarship in Library Science to Kansas City College, which she declined to stay close to her widowed mother. She worked for Aramco in New York City until 1952 when she married her loving husband Guy P. deLhery and in two and one half years were blessed with three children. 4 years later with the addition of twins, all in a 5th floor walkup, it was time to move to the suburbs. In 1961 the family moved to Old Bridge NJ where Marie lived for 40 years and made many wonderful memories with family, friends and neighbors. She was an original parishioner of St Ambrose Roman Catholic Church where she unselfishly gave her time volunteering at bingo, PTA, library, cleaning the church, counting money or whenever she was needed. She was a past member of St Ambrose Senior Citizens and Old Bridge Senior Citizens. Marie worked for The Middlesex County Mental Health Clinic for twenty years before retiring. Marie and Guy lived in the Sayrewoods South section of Old Bridge until retiring to Rossmoor in 1999.She loved her retirement home, community and pool and quickly made friends and became involved in the Emerald Society, Red Hats Club, Rossmoor Senior Citizens, Monroe Township Seniors and The Nativity of Our Lord Parish where she again volunteered many hours. Although Marie lived in NJ for over fifty years she was a city girl at heart and loved to go back to the eastside of Manhattan where her ancestors had lived since immigrating from Ireland in the 1850s. Marie had a deep faith, was devoted to the Blessed Mother and St Jude and very proud of her Irish heritage. She made friends wherever she went, talked to anyone and always made everyone feel welcome. She loved to travel especially to Ireland and Italy, read, knit, crochet, visit graveyards, go for long rides where she usually got lost along the way. She was the life of the party, funny, generous, loyal, caring, fun loving and kind. She left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was everyone's favorite aunt, cousin, friend, coworker and neighbor. Her most cherished time was spent with her children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews making sure everyone was well fed. Marie was predeceased by her father and mother James Hogan and Rose (Kelly) Hogan, her beloved sister and brother Catherine Rogers and Vincent Hogan, and nephew Vincent Hogan. She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years Guy, her loving children, Vincent and his wife Joann of Cliffside Park; Michael of Monroe, Joan Cyhan and husband George of Newark, Delaware; Anne(Nancy) Certo and her husband Robert of Monroe; and Monica Galianese and her husband James of Colts Neck. She leaves behind her adoring grandchildren Christopher deLhery and his wife Gina, Thomas and Michael Cyhan, Robert and Justine Certo and Angelica and Alana Galianese and three treasured great grandchildren Finlea deLhery and Vincent and Dolcie Certo. Funeral services will begin Tuesday at 8:45am from the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 9:30 am at Nativity of Our Lord RCC, 185 Applegarth Rd., Monroe Twp. Interment wil follow in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
