Kathryn Cadmus Hollywood - Monroe Township
Kathryn Bailey Cadmus Hollywood, age 90, died Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born on her grandparents' farm in the Fresh Ponds section of South Brunswick Township on March 24, 1923, Kathryn lived in that area for most of her life before moving to Monroe Township six years ago. Kathryn was the daughter of the late Russell and Esther Beekman Cadmus.
Kathryn graduated from Jamesburg High School in 1940 and soon went to work as a drill press operator at the General Motors plant in Linden making FM-2 Wildcats, WWII airplanes, until she enlisted in the Women's Army Corp (WAC) where she served as a surgical technician. Stationed at what was then Halloran General Hospital, Staten Island, NY, she met a patient, her future husband, Al Hollywood.
Kathryn retired from South Brunswick Public Schools where she was the "milk lady" at Deans School for many years. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 401 in South Brunswick serving twice as president. As a veteran, she was also a member of the American Legion Post 401. Kathryn served as Middlesex County American Legion Auxiliary President twice, as well as other county and unit offices. She was Past-president of the Cranbury Golden Age Neighbors, a member of the South Brunswick Golden Age Club and the Middlesex County American Legion Past Presidents Parlay.
Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Barbara with whom she lived, her son Bill and his wife Linda, son Tom and his wife Anne-Marie, granddaughters Alex and Sarah, grandson Doug, sister Joan Hoelzer, sister-in-law Jeanne Cadmus and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Alfred Denham Hollywood, son Jack Cadmus Hollywood, brother Russell Cadmus and her dear friend Clark Rupp.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 2, 2013, from 1 pm to 4 pm at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Road, Monroe Township. Burial will be private.
