Obituary of James D. Kelly

On Sept. 6, 2013, James D. Kelly, surrounded by his loving family, passed away after a brief illness.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 9, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Township, N.J.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at St. James the Less R.C. Church, 36 Lincoln Ave., Jamesburg, N.J. Immediately following, interment will take place at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.
Born in the Inwood section of Manhattan, James moved to Old Bridge, N.J. followed by Elyria, Ohio.
Upon returning to New Jersey, the family lived in Flanders, N.J., for over 20 years. Prior to his death, James was a resident of Greenbriar in Monroe Township, N.J.
Graduating in 1954 from City College of New York with a B.S. in chemistry, he worked all phases of the chemical industry for almost 40 years.
He was employed for most of his career by Tenneco Chemicals and its successor companies, Nuodex Inc. and Huls America. During his 31 years with Tenneco, rising through the ranks he held many field positions, ultimately becoming director of sales and marketing for various industry segments.
Jim was an avid Giants and Mets fan, as well as enjoying golfing and researching genealogy.
James was the son of the late John and Agnes Kelly of County Mayo, Ireland, and loving husband to Sandra E. Kelly (Deak), and the late Dolores A. Kelly (Gorman); devoted father of James D. Kelly Jr.; Michael D. Kelly (Vivian), and Colleen Marie Chaparro (Richard).
He was the cherished grandfather of Michael and Rachel Kelly and Caitlyn and Richard Chaparro; he is also survived by his siblings, Sr. Maureen Kelly FSP, (New Jersey), John P. Kelly (Virginia), and Eileen Giordan (Massachusetts), and by many nieces and nephews.
