George R. Ackerman, Jr. – Whiting, formerly of Monroe Twp.
George R. Ackerman, Jr. died on Thursday June 6, 2013 at University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia. He was 66 years old. Mr. Ackerman was born in Jersey City. He lived in Monroe Twp. for 38 years before moving to Whiting in 2004. He was a self-employed master carpenter and homebuilder for most of his career. Most recently, he was employed in the building and maintenance department at Princeton University. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.
He was predeceased by his wife Geraldine H. (Weakley) Ackerman in 2003 and a brother Kenneth Ackerman (1992).
He is survived by three children, Christina M. Ackerman of Jackson, Barbara Paiano and her husband Michael of Flemington, and George R. Ackerman, III of Spotswood, three sisters, Diane Wooderd, Patricia Ceroli, and Kathi McDonough, three grandchildren, Alana, Briana, and John, and many other extended family members.
Visitation will be Sunday June 9, 2013 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home – 205 Rhode Hall Rd – Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. A funeral service will be at 10:00am on Monday June 10, 2013 followed by Interment in Fernwood Cemetery, Jamesburg.
