Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carol E. Dooley Carol E. Dooley passed away on Saturday April 27, 2013 after a long illness. She was born in Perth Amboy and lived in Woodbridge until moving to Monroe Township. Carol was a graduate of Woodbridge High School class of 1960 and Rutgers University with a degree in political science. She also attended Middlesex County College for para-legal courses. Carol was employed by the Middlesex County Court System for 52 years. Carol was the Assistant Family Division Manager in the Family Court. She began her Judiciary career on March 27, 1961 as a file clerk in the civil division of the old Middlesex County Courthouse. At the time there were no security doors or security screening, and employees were not required to wear identification badges. Court testimony was recorded by hand and electric typewriters were high technology together with the telephone switchboard operator. Docketing and bookkeeping was also done by hand and the civil records office consisted of six people in one office with active case files fitting into just five file cabinets. Today, the civil records division takes up two floors of the administration building. Carol advanced in her career through a variety of jobs, including clerk typist, docket clerk and principal clerk. In 1968, she was the first woman to pass the court clerk test. In April 2011, the Middlesex Vicinage Celebrated her 50th Anniversary of employment with a luncheon at the Courthouse where Chief Judge Dehorah Venezia described her as the "matriarch of the family division". Carol was an active member of the New Jersey Historical Society and took frequent trips with the group. As a resident of Monroe Township she regularly attended township Planning Board meetings. She loved to travel and kept her trips to the United States as she felt there were so many great things in the U.S. that would require time to see and appreciate. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Austin James Dooley and Violet E. Dooley (Wierzbowski). She is survived by sisters Rosalie Russo of Jonesboro, Tennessee and Patricia Russell of Greenfield, New Hampshire, brother Austin L. Dooley of City Island, Bronx, New York, partner and companion David Reese and twenty nieces and nephews spanning 2 generations. In lieu of flowers donation can be made in her memory to the: Salvation Army (https://donate.salvationarmyusa.org/) Funeral services will begin at 8:45am on Monday May 6th from the M.
