Obituary of John E. Smith

Mr. John E. Smith died Monday April 1st at home. He was 73 years old.
Born in New Brunswick, he lived most of his life in the Jamesburg/Monroe Township area. After receiving his BA and MA from Rutgers University in Business administration, he established the Benchmark Auto Service in Somerville, where he worked for over 15 years, retiring in 2008. In his spare time and in retirement, he enjoyed both fresh water and deep sea fishing. Mr. Smith was a member of St. James RCC, Jamesburg. He also served as a Medical Specialist in the US Army from 1958 to 1961.
Surviving are a son, Edward and his wife, Amanda, of Florida, two daughters, Dawn Nguyen and her husband, Joe of Monroe Township, and Sue Grover and her husband, Jim of Howell, a sister, Dianne of Jamesburg, five grandchildren, Jessica Balz, Bobby Jimenez, Mikey and Ryan Masitti and Christopher Smith and two great grandchildren, R.J and David Balz.
Private cremation services were held under the supervision of the M.David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp. A gathering of friends and relatives will be held Saturday April 6th at the funeral home from 12 noon to 2pm, with a funeral service to be offered at 1:30pm. The family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
