Your mother inspires me in that she continued to grow and change as she grew older. The Connie Dunne that I have been privileged to know for the past few years had evolved considerably from the woman I first met in 1968. I hope that she could say the same of me.

So sorry to hear about Connie. She just seemed like one of those life forces that would just go on forever. My mom becomes the last of that amazing foursome (Ann, Rita, Ruth and Connie)to still be with us at 97. Unfortunately she is just existing and not really with us due to the onset of her dementia. I am always saddened to see this special generation disappear. These were the people who prized loyalty, honesty and family. As such they stayed the best of friends from elementary school to the end. Please extend my sympathy to Karen, Frankie, Kevin, John and Debbie. I often reflect on some of the crazy childhood moments I spent with the Dunne family, like getting lost on the IBM golf course. With you and Frankie things were never dull. Connie lived a wonderful life involved with both her family and her community and now she is able to rest and finally be with her beloved Timmy. I am thinking of you all and I hope if you come to Long Island when she is interned at Holy Rood that you will get in touch.

Love

I never met Constance - clearly to my detriment. Wow, what a powerhouse and an inspiration to her family of many generations. I know little of Francis, but it's fun to trace my friend John's soulful song, theatricality and humanist social advocacy back to one of its vital sources. Good job Constance and Cent Anni!
Connie was such a wonderful, giving person. She was very close to my family, starting from when we lived right down the street from her family on Liberty Avenue in Rockville Centre. She was especially supportive of my mother after my father died suddenly in January of 1965, as well as a month later when my mother's sister, Mary Jane, passed away after a long illness. I knew all her children, but was probably closest to Johnny, through our shared love of music. (I actually ran into John at Woodstock; imagine running into a friend from your childhood at random among hundreds of thousands of people!) I also remember Frankie visiting with my mother and aunt Rosie, discussing all the latest books. And Kevin drove me up to college at one point, during my freshman or sophomore year I think. Of course, I felt her great pain in losing her beloved Timmy, but it sounds like she turned that heartbreak into devotion to a worthy cause. I had a long phone conversation with Connie a couple of years ago when we reminisced about old times and people from the past. She brought me up to speed on her family and I told her what was happening in my world. I even remember with a smile playing golf with Connie a few times at the IBM Country Club in Port Washington when my hair was probably at its all-time longest. (What a pair we must have made!) The world is a bit emptier for having lost such a lovely, caring person as Connie, but I'm sure her spirit lives on through all those she touched during her full life. My deepest sympathy goes out to her family and other loved ones.
Barry H. Richardson

It is with heavy heart, but also huge admiration and appreciation that I write this message. I feel so privileged to have called your Mother my FRIEND. I will always treasure all of the time we spent together over the last 23 years. We have shared wonderful conversations over many lunches, dinners and DiSimone family parties. Your Mom has been an inspiration to both me and my daughter Jeanne. We would speak about many different topics, from healthcare to politics to family, and I was always so impressed with her breadth of knowledge and life experience. She was truly ahead of her time in all that she did. She was a wonderful mother, friend and citizen and truly cared about everyone! I am so happy that we had a long conversation about a month ago. She seemed happy, content and accepting of her heart condition. She told me she was determined to continue to live her life to the fullest as long as she could, even with her new physical restrictions.

I pray she left this earth peacefully and with no discomfort.
I am so sorry for your loss, and I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the rest of your family. Her family is in my thoughts and prayers.

With my deepest sympathy,
Liz DiSimone

I met Connie in 1988, when she came to the agency I was working at as a Social Worker. She told me she heard I was beginning a Family Bereavement Program and that the youngest of her 7 children, Tim had taken his life 16 years ago. She told me that 2 of her children, Edward and Karen were therapists involved with Suicide Prevention and Survivors. Connie and I co- facilitated the first Suicide Survivors group on Long Island for 6 1/2 years. Connie and I became close friends and she and Karen came to my son's Bar-Mitzvah in 1997. Connie was my inspiration for getting older and I will miss her very much. She was an amazing human being who cared deeply about her family and other people. She was a leader on Long Island for universal health care. My sincere condolences to Edward, Karen and the entire Dunne Family and relatives. Edward Paley
