Hon, Joseph E. Sadofski, retired Superior Court Judge of New Jersey, died Saturday January 19th at home after a long illness. He was 77 years old. Born in New Brunswick, he lived in Wrightstown and Piscataway, moving to Monroe in 1988.
After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and his JD from Georgetown Law, he began a private practice in New Brunswick, and for 16 years, served as legal representative to the Cranbury Planning Board, So. Brunswick Board of Adjustment, Plainsboro Planning Board, Spotswood Planning Board, Piscataway Board of Adjustment, Monroe Twp. Planning Board and served as assistant city attorney for New Brunswick. In 1981 he was appointed to the Bench of the Superior Court of New Jersey, sitting in New Brunswick and served in the Family, Civil and Criminal sections, retiring in 1996.
He served in the Air Force and AF Reserves from 1961 to 1964, and was a long time playing member of Forsgate Country Club. He was an active member of St. James RCC, Jamesburg.
His first wife, Maria Elena (Genovese) died in 2004. Surviving are his second wife, Shirley Zuk of Monroe Twp., two daughters, Kristin Curcio and her husband Paul of Freehold and Kathryn Hulings and her husband Mark of Simi Valley, CA, a sister, Loraine Rumore of Daytona Beach, FL and six grandchildren, Danielle, Sara, Matthew and Elena Curcio and Brooke and Claire Hulings.
Funeral services will begin on Wednesday at 9:30am from M. David DeMarco Funeral Home 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00am at St. James RCC, Jamesburg, NJ. Interment will follow in the family plot in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Brunswick. Visitation is Tuesday evening only, 7-9pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the NJ Cancer Institute, New Brunswick, NJ.
