Obituary of Sophie Yun Jiang

Sophie Y. Jiang, 72, of Dayton, N.J., entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 9th, 2013 at Kindred Hospital of Rahway, New Jersey. She was the beloved wife for 40 years of Ding J. Huang, devoted mother of two daughters, Ellen and Alice, adored grandmother of Lucy and Macy, cherished sister of four younger brothers, Youcai, Bin, Mitchell, and Youjie, and friend to countless extended family members. Sophie was born in Shanghai to the late Baoxian and Yaoxiang Jiang, on November 10, 1941. She received her medical degree from Shanghai Medical University in 1965. She dedicated the next 20 years of her life to being a pediatrician specializing in leukemia, lymphoma and neurological cases at Renji Hospital, Shanghai, China. Her family moved to United States in the 1980s, first to Highland Park, then to Edison, until finally settling in Dayton. In the US, Sophie continued her medical profession as a technologist at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, until retiring in 2005. After a valiant fight with lymphoma in 2005, Sophie's battle resumed in 2012. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through her remaining days. Throughout her struggle with cancer, she maintained a sweet and caring demeanor, shown through her smile and kindness to relatives and friends that will never be forgotten. She will always be remembered as a kind, generous and selfless friend, a devoted mother who provided endless wisdom and encouragement to her daughters, and a caring wife who always supported and cherished her beloved husband. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Kindred Hospital of Rahway, N.J. for their support during her final days. Visiting hours are 2:30pm to 3:30pm on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. A funeral service will commence at 3:30pm at the conclusion of the visiting hours. Interment will begin at 11:30 am on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.
