Obituary of John R. Mechkowski, Sr.

John R. Mechkowski of Seaford, DE, formerly of Helmetta, NJ, passed away on Friday January 4, 2013 at his residence. He was born on July 12, 1931 in East Brunswick, NJ. John worked for Helme Tobacco Company. He served in the US Marine Corps in the 1st Marine Division during the Korean War. He was a member and past Commandant of the Marine Corps Leagues; Middlesex Detachment and Seaford Devil Dogs in Delaware. John was also a member of the Spotswood, NJ VFW and a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. John was predeceased by his parents, John and Stella (Laska) Mechkowski, a sister, Dorothy Skarzynski and a brother Ernest. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Catherine (Holsten) Mechkowski, four sons: John Jr. of Portland, TN, Stephen of Helmetta, NJ, James of Hayden, ID, and Timothy of Helmetta, NJ, a daughter, Kathryn Mangano of Helmetta, NJ, seven grandsons: John III, James II, Shawn, Tyler, and Joshua Mechkowski, John Paul II and Nicholas Mangano, two granddaughters: Jennifer Mechkowski and Alexis Semeniuk. Funeral services will begin Wednesday January 9th at 9:45am from the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home – 205 Rhode Hall Road – Monroe Twp. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30am at St. James the Less RC Church – 36 Lincoln Ave - Jamesburg. Committal service and interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday January 8th from 2-4 and 7-9 at the funeral home.
