Obituary of Steven E Kaplan

Mr. Steven E. Kaplan died Thursday December 27th at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He was 62 years old. Born in the Bronx, he was raised in
Old Bridge, and lived in Manalapan for five years before moving to Monroe Township five years ago.
He was a 1974 graduate of Rutgers University, but had already begun a long career in television with CBS in New York. Steve was a scheduling manager involved with the Olympics, Super Bowls, Detroit Grand Prix car racing, Republican and Democratic National Conventions, 60 Minutes and NFL and college sports. He later became a franchise owner for Transmedia of NJ, which financed restaurants and then helped with marketing of dining privileges at those restaurants, retiring in 2000.
He continued his love of broadcasting by hosting his own current events radio show on WCTC in New Brunswick, NJ. He served as a member of the Board of Directors at Cranbury Crossing where he lived, and was an avid bowler. His intense involvement with the sport of bowling included acting as league commissioner, secretary and statistician for several leagues, specifically at Carolier Lanes in New Brunswick, and he was a regular attendee at the National Bowling Congress. His true joy in his retirement was his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 17 years, Sandra (Bouwmans) Kaplan, sons, Ronald Varrial and his wife, Angelique of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, and Cory Varrial and his wife, Emma of Jackson, NJ, his parents, Donald and Evelyn (Kirschner) Kaplan of Boynton Beach, FL, a sister, Eileen Aronson of Jackson, NJ, his in-laws, Philip and Virginia (Maxfield) Bouwmans of Hemolck Farms, PA three grandchildren, Lucas, Philip and Logan, a niece, Jessica Loeb and a nephew, Michael Stein.
Funeral services will be at 11:00am Monday at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp. Interment will follow in Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan. Friends and relatives will be received at the funeral home Sunday from 6 to 9pm and Monday from 9:30am until the service at 11:00am. For direction please visit www.demarcofuneralhome.com.
