Mrs. Helen Wass died Friday December 7th at Centra State Medical Center, Freehold. She was 89 years old. Born in Nyomut, Hungary, she came to the US alone at age 15. She lived in Manville, Somerville and finally in Millstone Township for over 25 years. Upon her arrival here, she initially worked as a domestic, then as a line worker at Johns Manville, Manville, Ethicon division of J & J in Bridgewater, and, after marriage, finally became partners with her husband in several successful ventures. She helped him with his construction business, and then they became co-owners of Park Liquors in Somerville for over 10 years and Millstone Liquors in Millstone Twp. for over 20 years. She continued to work at her daughter's Millstone Deli Store for over 10 years, finally retiring in 2002. She enjoyed cooking and caring for her family, especially with produce she nurtured in her garden. She could sew and mend anything. But her true joy in later years was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord RCC, Monroe Twp. Her husband Stephen J. just passed away in September of this year. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Midura of Freehold, Ilona Wass- Stumpf and her husband John of Skillman, three grandchildren, Olivia and Douglas Stumpf and Joseph Midura and two great grandchildren, Wiley and Zoe Midura. Funeral services will be Thursday at 8:45am from the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 9:30am at Nativity of Our Lord RCC, Monroe Twp. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Mausoleum, So. Brunswick. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at Nativity of Our Lord RCC, 185 Applegarth Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831.
