Obituary of Ernest Macyda

Mr. Ernest Macyda died Friday August 3rd at Robert Wood Johnson-University Hospital, New Brunswick He was 82 years old. Born in Harrisburg, PA, he lived in the Spotswood-Monroe Township area for over 50 years before retiring to Florida in 1989. He returned to Monroe Twp. in 2010.
He worked for 15 years for the Monroe Township Road Department and previously was a line worker for Phelps Dodge Corp. in South Brunswick for 18 years. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War, and was a member of the Spotswood American Legion Post 177, and the VFW Post in Flagler County, FL. Mr. Macyda was honored as the Grand Marshall of the 2011 Spotswood Memorial Day Parade. When he wasn't working to support them, he enjoyed spending time with his family, and in his younger days enjoyed playing the accordion and harmonica.
His wife of 59 years, Irene Honabach died in 2010 and a son, Richard died in 1985.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald and his wife, Jackie of Spotswood, and Robert and his wife, Lisa of Monroe Twp., seven daughters, Cynthia Johnson and her husband, Robert of Spring Hill, FL, Ann Macyda of Tulsa OK, Joann Korzenok and her husband, William of Monroe Twp., Linda Scott and her husband, Richard of Cranbury, Paula Karstensen and her husband, Stephen of Monroe Twp., Michelle Miller and her husband Michael of Jacksonville, FL and Diane Macyda of Old Bridge, NJ, and a sister, Helen DeLuca of Thurmont, MD. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30am at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home 205 Rhode hall Rd., Monroe Twp. Committal and cremation services will follow at Franklin M.P. Crematory and Mausoleum, Franklin Park. Visitation is Tuesday from 6 to 9pm and Wednesday from 9:30am until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to AMVETS.org.
