Obituary of Melvin P. Lightner

Melvin P. Lightner died Saturday May 12th at the Gardens at Monroe rehabilitation Center. He was 80 years old. Born in Shirley Twp., PA. He lived in Old Bridge, NJ for 25 years before moving to Leesburg, FL in 1990. He worked as a Senior Operator for Colonial Pipeline Co. for 26 years, retiring in 1990. Mr. Lightner served in the US Army during the Korean War, and was a member of the American Legion Post 53 in Leesburg, FL. He vacationed at a family cabin in Canada yearly and enjoyed fishing there. He enjoyed to cook and loved to eat. He enjoyed playing cards with anyone that would play. He was an avid NY Yankees fan. He loved to care for his vegetable and flower gardens. He truly enjoyed traveling around the world, with his wife.
His wife of 50 years, Barbara A. (Gallagher) died in December of 2011 and a brother, John died in 1971.
Surviving are his son, Dale and wife Jody, of Longwood, FL, two daughters, Maryann Jensen and husband John, and Jamie Toth and husband Rich, all of Monroe Township, two brothers, Lincoln of Robesonia, PA and Harvey of Louisburg, KS. He is also survived by his six grandsons, Justin and Jordan Lightner, John and Kyle Jensen and Richie and Michael Toth, and many nieces and nephews.
Private cremation was held by the family. A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday, May 16th from 4 to 5pm at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp. A memorial service will be offered at 5pm. Interment of the cremains will take place at a later date in the Lightner Family plot in Solomon Cemetery, Macungie, PA.
