Obituary of William O. Allen

William O. Allen died on Thursday February 16, 2012 at his home in Rossmoor, Monroe Twp. He was 88 years old. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his wife Olga H. (Pocsik) Allen in 1998. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Abate and her husband James of Arlington, VA, his son, Richard and his wife, Anne of Easton, PA, one granddaughter, Jessica Allen, and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. Mr. Allen was born Sept. 10, 1923 and was raised in Bridgeport, CT. He lived in Franklin Twp. for 35 years before moving to Rossmoor, Monroe Twp. in 1992. Active in every community he lived in, he served on the Taxpayers Liaison Committee, the Zoning and Planning Boards and Township Council of Franklin Twp., finally serving three years as mayor. In Monroe Township, he was a long time member of the Zoning Board. He was a Veteran of World War II, from 1942 to 1945, serving in the Burma area conflict. After 35 years of service, he retired from American Cyanamid in 1982 as Plant Superintendent. He was a parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, Monroe Twp., and served as Vice President of the Holy Name Society, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #14658. While living in Rossmoor, he was very active in the community, serving as Director of Mutual 8, as Chairman of the Rossmoor Government Relations Committee, Vice President of the Rossmoor Emerald Society, President of the Rossmoor Seniors Club, President of the Rossmoor Democratic Club, and was a member of the Rossmoor Italian American Club. He represented the Rossmoor Community by serving South Brunswick as a member of the Community Advisory Panel. Funeral services will begin at 8:45am Tuesday February 21, 2012 from the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. A funeral liturgy will be 9:30am at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, Monroe Twp., followed by Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway. Visitation will be Monday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the funeral home.
