Obituary of Mary Margaret Shanks

Ms. Mary Margaret "Maureen" Shanks died Monday Feb. 13th at home. She was 82 years old. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she arrived in New Jersey in 1958 and settled in Princeton, where she lived for 25 years. She then moved to Scotland, but returned to New Jersey and settled in Rossmoor in Monroe Township in 2001.She was the private cook for Mrs. Robert Wood Johnson for 25 years, retiring in 1991.Maureen was an active member of Nativity of Our Lord RCC and served as a Eucharistic minister. She was active in the Rossmoor Guild, and was a volunteer with the Rossmoor Library. She was a founding member of the Emerald Society of Rossmoor. Surviving are a brother, John G. Shanks in Renfrew, Scotland, a sister Ursula McCormick in Paisley, Scotland, and a dear friend, Paula Alfrey and her husband, Dan of Old Bridge. Also surviving are 18 nieces and nephews and two grandnephews. A funeral liturgy will be offered at 9:30am Thursday at Nativity of Our Lord RCC, Monroe Twp. Cremation will be private. Entombment of her cremains will take place at Holy Cross Mausoleum, So. Brunswick, at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe Township First Aid Squad. Municipal Plaza, Monroe Township, NJ 08831.
