Obituary of Ernesto Mendez

Ernesto Mendez died on Thursday January 5, 2012 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 82 years old. Mr. Mendez was born and raised in Moca, Puerto Rico. He came to the US in 1946 and settled in Brooklyn where he lived until moving to Greenbriar @ Whittingham, Monroe Twp. in 1995. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and continued his service in the US Army Reserves for five years. He was a real estate broker for over 50 years and owned and operated his own business, Port Realty Corp. in Brooklyn, until his retirement in 1999. He was an avid domino player, but most of all, was a true family man.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Josephine (Hernandez) Mendez of Greenbriar @ Whittingham, Monroe Twp., two daughters, Nancy A. Doremus and her husband Douglas of Breezy Point, NY, and Lorraine M. Davila and her husband Jaime of West Windsor, his son, Hector Mendez and his wife, Claire of West Windsor, five brothers, John Loperena and his wife, Rosalie of Vincentown, Angel Roman and his wife Rosemarie of Vincentown, Miguel Mendez and his wife Jenny of Brookville, FL, Emerenciano Mendez and his wife Julia of Brooklyn, Osvaldo Mendez and his wife Zoraida of Brooklyn, and Cesareo Mendez of Holmdel, one sister, Pura Gonzalez of Brooklyn, six grandchildren, Matthew Doremus, Jason Davila, Christina Mendez, Marissa Davila, Elizabeth Mendez, and Michael Davila, and one great granddaughter, Madison Doremus.
Funeral services will begin at 9:15am Monday January 9, 2012 from the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. A funeral liturgy will be 10:00am at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, Monroe Twp. followed by Entombment at Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, S. Brunswick. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the funeral home.
