Obituary of John J. Koval

John J. Koval died on Friday December 23, 2011 at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 86 years old. Mr. Koval was born and raised in Carteret and resided there for 62 years. He has lived in Monroe Twp. since 2001. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII and was a Purple Heart recipient. He retired on May 31, 1986 from Amerada Hess Corp. in Sewaren as a Senior Vice President of Quality Control. He was also a manager at Amsco of Carteret for 25 years. He was an elected member of the Carteret Board of Education, and was a parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, Monroe Twp. He was idolized by his three daughters, and was the best Pop Pop to his grandchildren, attending every game, supporting them through school, and was so proud of the young adults they have become.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary (Sarik) Koval, and three siblings, Ann Barney, Helen Petrach, and Joseph Koval.
He is survived by the love of his life, best friend and wife of 56 years, Mary (Giesler) Koval of Monroe Twp., three daughters, Maryanne Koval of Southampton, PA, Linda Koval of Monroe Twp., and Karen Dontas and her husband Peter of Plainsboro, three sisters, Mary O'Reilly and her husband Joseph of Carteret, Irene Janusz of Port Reading, and Dorothy Morrissey of Ocean Grove, three grandchildren, Stephanie Dontas, Elizabeth Koval, and Ryan Dontas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin at 8:45am Tuesday December 27, 2011 from the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. A funeral liturgy will be 9:30am at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, Monroe Twp. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be Monday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the funeral home.
