Obituary of David Woodman Titus, Sr.

David Woodman Titus, Sr., 94, of Monroe Township died on Friday, April 5, 2019 at RWJ University Hospital in New Brunswick.  David was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts and spent most of his youth in Boston. He graduated from Boston University in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and subsequently worked as a Systems Analyst at MIT’s Lincoln Lab and the MITRE Corporation. He lived in Lexington, Massachusetts until moving to The Ponds adult community in Monroe Township in 1998. David had a passion for art and devoted much of his time in retirement to painting, particularly seascapes and landscapes.  He enjoyed teaching art classes at The Ponds for many years.

David proudly served his country during World War II. He joined the Navy in 1942 and spent most of the war as a Navy corpsman attached to a Marine Division in the Pacific. He participated in landings and saw combat action in Emirau, Guam and Okinawa and also supported operations in Bougainville.

David was preceded in death by his son, David Woodman Titus, Jr. (1996), and three sisters: Barbara Stanney, Elizabeth (Betty) Mooney and Anne Englin.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Barbara (Bickmore) Titus of Monroe Township; his daughter Barbara Kaplowitz and her husband David of Parsippany; two grandchildren, Amanda Bernoskie and her husband Charles and Daniel Kaplowitz; and one great grandson, Cole Bernoskie. 

A memorial gathering will be from 1:00 to 2:30 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc., 205 Rhode Hall Road, Monroe Township, NJ  08831.  A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm following the gathering hours.  Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date in Westview Cemetery, Lexington, Massachusetts.
