Obituary of James C. Gillick
James C. Gillick, Sr. passed away with his family by his side on Friday, April 5, 2019 at his home. 74 years old, Jim was born and raised in Jersey City and later lived in Old Bridge for 38 years before moving to Monroe in 2008. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Wagner College in 1968 and a Master's in Education from Seton Hall University. Jim had a 35-year, high-school teaching and coaching career at Snyder in Jersey City, Irvington, Cedar Ridge in Old Bridge, and Marlboro. Jim taught his favorite subject, history, and was a state-championship coach in football and girls’ track. A third-degree Knight of Columbus in St. Thomas the Apostle Council #4815, Jim also served on the school board for St. Ambrose Parish, where he was a lector and active parishioner. A current parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord in Monroe, Jim was pre-deceased by brother, Jack Gillick, and his sister, Patricia Sabbers.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy B. (Hecht) Gillick of Monroe; Jim Gillick, Jr. and his wife Becky of Wall Twp.; Jack Gillick and his wife Donna of Old Bridge; Kathleen Carvalho and her husband Paul of Hamilton Twp.; his sister, Mary Clare Reck and her husband Clem of Collegeville, PA; his four beloved grandchildren, Amelia, Maeve, Alessandra, and Antonio, and many, many other family members.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday April 10, 2019 and from 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on Thursday April 11, 2019 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc., 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. A funeral liturgy will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, 185 Applegarth Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, and Interment in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
