Obituary of Charles A. Palmer

Charles A. Palmer (Cap) passed away on January 22, 2019 at the age of 93 at Brookdale Monroe. He was a resident of Rossmoor, Monroe Twp, NJ for the past 40 years. He is survived by his wife Francine (Arnaud) Palmer, brother Dr. Paul Palmer and wife Marian (Phoenix, AZ), sister Barbara Deeds and husband Jim (Monument, CO) and many nieces and nephews, son Chris Palmer and wife Susan (Manasquan, NJ) and their three children Alexandra Palmer-Rogers and husband Will Rogers (Highland Park, NJ), Michael Palmer (Brooklyn, NY) and James Palmer (Manasquan, NJ), son-in-law Christian Laugier (Reyrieux, France), grandson Pierre Laugier and wife Morgane (Paris, France) and their children Camille, Louise and Antonin, granddaughter Cathy Benoit and husband Jean-Charles (Brindas, France) and their children Thomas and Lea. Charles was pre-deceased by his daughter Nicole Laugier in 2014. Cap was born in Chicago, IL in July 24, 1925 to Charles (Chuck) Palmer and Florence (Lichtenstein) Palmer. He joined the Navy in 1943 studying Aeronautical Engineering and playing football at Northwestern and Cornell before graduating in 1947. After college he joined Chrysler International, first in the automobile industry and later in the air conditioning business (Airtemp Division). He retired from Fedders Corp. after it acquired Airtemp in 1977. Cap’s career took him and his family all over the world: Panama (1960 to 62), Wimbledon, England (1962 to 67), Madrid, Spain (1967 to 77) and San Juan, Puerto Rico (1977 to 79). He traveled for business to remote locations including Cuba, Colombia, Belgian Congo, Iran, Kuwait, Vietnam and Japan. His hobbies included history, woodworking, and gardening. After retirement he spent thirty years researching his and his wife’s ancestry including trips to England, France, Italy, East Germany and East Prussia (now Poland). He was an Episcopalian and attended St. George’s Embassy Church in Madrid, St. George’s Church in Helmetta, NJ for over 30 years and St. David’s Church in Cranbury, NJ since 2013. A Memorial Service will be held at St. David’s Church in Cranbury, NJ (time to be confirmed) on March 9th, 2019. All friends and family are welcome.
