Obituary of Pratima Maniar

There are no words and no hugs that are powerful enough to describe the physical loss of our treasured Pratima Maniar on Wednesday, December 26th, 2018. She was only 64 years of age and truly embodied vibrant energy, natural beauty, and an infectious zest for life and laughter of timeless youth. A jetsetter who was born in Bahadarpur, Gujarat, India, she courageously moved to Hoboken, NJ at the age of 17 and created new pathways to bring her family to the US. She was the pillar for her brother, sisters, parents and continued to be as she built her own family with our father, Kaushik. To Pratima’s friends and family, you have touched her heart by sharing how it was a privilege to have known her, and in return of that honor, she touched our hearts with compassion and infinite joke telling to reciting creative poems and wise tales. Her talents were abundant and everyone was drawn to her because she exuded beauty from the inside and out, intelligence about the world, religion, and confidently standing apart from the rest - a unique combination. She was the best grandparent teaching math and spelling, active playfulness, kindness, and spirituality to her grandchildren with a very special bond with Karina and Dilan, who call her their best friend. To her three daughters, whom she named her three angels, she was their cool best friend, their biggest cheerleader, their confidant in all topics, and their sage advisor. To her husband, she showed him a life full of excitement and pushed him to keep seeing the world and celebrate with wine and wit. To the community, she was a social leader, acted in gujarati dramas nationally, worked as Microbiologist, a loving homemaker, a student, community service teacher, and cheerfully befriended new, different, and familiar faces everywhere. Pratima was a role model of how to spread a deep will to live life to its fullest and spread contagious laughter. We are confident she felt tremendous joy as she found her peace and tranquility. Her heart and soul are filled with profound warmth. Our mutual deep love will bond us for lifetimes to come.
