Obituary of John Loperena

John Loperena passed away on Friday December 21, 2018 at Brookdale Assisted Living Residence in Monroe Twp. He was 97 years old. John was born and raised in Moca, Puerto Rico. He came to the US in 1940 and settled in Brooklyn. He returned to Puerto Rico and lived in Hatillo for ten years. He has resided in Southampton for over 30 years. He served in the US Army during WWII and was a real estate broker and founder of Port Realty in Brooklyn. He was an avid golfer and golfed for over 70 years of his life. In his later years, he enjoyed bowling and bowled regularly until about six months ago. He also loved gardening and travelling. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Rosalie (DeGennaro) Loperena in 2013 and two siblings, Ernesto Mendez, and Purin Gonzalez. He is survived by his step-daughter, Rosalie Kurtz, her husband Lawrence, and grandson Michael of Staten Island, NY, five siblings, Angel Roman, Miguel Mendez and his wife Jenny, Emerenciano Mendez and his wife Julia, Osvaldo Mendez and his wife Zoraida, and Cesareo Mendez, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and other extended family members. A private cremation took place under the direction of the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc., 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. Entombment of John's cremated remains will take place at 11:00am on Friday January 11, 2019 at Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, 840 Cranbury Rd. South Brunswick, NJ 08810.
